I was wondering if anyone has any tips on an easy way to remove creosote from a BBQ?

Sorry for the late reply on this, but what kind of cooker is this? Also when you say creosote, please explain what you are referring to, I want to make sure we are on the same page.

I have a Texas Pit Crafters PM-600 offset smoker.  The inside of it looks like it is covered in shinny black paint which is both pealing & bubbling.  I also had some stuff on it that looked like black tar, but I have already removed most of that with a putty knife.  I had smoke & temp problems the last time I used it that I thought were caused by the wood, but it looks like a blocked chimmney opening was the problem.  I removed the blockage, but now my pit is covered with the shinny black stuff which I am assuming is creosote.  What do you think?  I have ordered some creosote removal spray, but I was wondering if you had any other suggestions?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

ok, just checked one of these cookers out, nice. I am guessing that is a stainless lid, is that correct?

What your referring to could be just a combination of some creosote, but more likely its mostly grease. If your burning mostly charcoal, you should not be having a creosote problem.. When I think of creosote, its mostly a liquid type substance, and where I mostly or expect to see it is in cookers that use water pans, and burning a wood fire.

I have a similar issue in my FEC100's which have a stainless cooking chamber. Its a pain to get out, but I would not worry a whole lot about getting it all off, technically its seasoning, unless you have an off odor coming from it.

Thanks for the advice.  I guess I am just going to scrape off the "Bubbles" with a putty knife and leave the rest of it alone.  Now I just have to make sure that I don't let the chimmney intake get clogged again.

Thanks again for your help.
